LYME DISEASE IN THE ADIRONDACKS: PREVELANCE, DIAGNOSIS, AND TREATMENT

Presenters: Dr. Lee Ann Sporn, Dr Ronald Stram, and Dr. Holly Ahern

1.   Lyme disease is transmitted by the bite of tick, other insects, body fluids and other modes and the disease is prevalent across the United States and throughout the world.
2.   In 2014 the NYS senate reported “462 cases reported through the first week of June in New York”

Gardening Ward Lumber Lyme awareness Lee Ann SpornLee Ann Sporn, Ph.D., is a Professor of Biology at Paul Smith's College. She has recently teamed up with the New York State Department of Health to monitor Lyme disease in the North Country

Dr. Ronald StramRonald Stram, M.D., is the founder of the Stram Center for Integrative Medi-cine in Delmar, NY. Trained in Emergency Medicine, Dr. Stram advanced his understanding of Lyme and tick-borne diseases through a short-term precep-torship under the supervision of an authorized clinician of the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS). Dr. Stram is widely recog-nized as an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme and tick-borne dis-eases. The Stram Center uses conventional medicine as well as complemen-tary holistic and preventative therapies to achieve the most effective results for their patients and reduce the debilitating symptoms that often come with a chronic illness.

Gardening Ward Lumber Jay WardHolly Ahern is professor of microbiology at SUNY Adirondack. As a result of her family’s personal battle with Lyme disease, she co-founded the non-profit organization Lyme Action Network which provides educational programs and literature on tick-borne diseases.
